Our 2017 Turockstock 5 artists line-up has FINALLY been confirmed. New to Turockstock this year is our feature headliner, The Dreamboats. The extremely popular Turockstock 4 headline act, "The River Junction Band" will be back to rock the shores of Lake Simcoe once again, with their new and original hits, plus some of today's hottest country songs. Other new additions include the Tom Petty Tribute, We Ain't Petty, The Jenny Howes Duo, and Mary Kate Terepka. Back for a third time are country rock favourites, Glenn Reid & Boogaloo. See below for more information on this incredible show.
GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!! The Dreamboats are bringing back good ol’ fashioned Rock n’ Roll! With a sound that is equal parts Chuck Berry & The Wonders, this quartet of handsome young Mississauga boys delivers a high energy, nostalgic show that has audiences dancing and singing the night away!
What brings these four youngsters together to play music that was much before their time? A true passion for an era when ice cream cost a quarter, milk was delivered to the door, and people danced to live music! The Dreamboats capture this era at live shows through their angelic harmonies, rockin’ guitars, matching uniforms, and contagious dance steps!
After coming home from a 14-show European Tour in May 2017, The Dreamboats are making sure that the PUNCH IS SPIKED and the DANCE FLOOR IS HOPPING!
Forget the country band stereotypes: The best way to describe a River Junction Band performance, is progressive, aggressive, rockin' country at its best. Boasting solid four part male and female harmonies, and drawing on influences as diverse as Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, AC/DC & The Rolling Stones. The result is country music with a definite edge. Coming off their win for "Country Group of the Year" at the LMA, and Nomination for "Country Group of the Year" at the CMAO's... the band continues to be in demand to bring its high-energy show to appreciative audiences and a growing fan base. They do this by maintaining a very busy performing schedule in the club and festival circuit. The band has had the pleasure of supporting such major acts as: Toby Keith, Big & Rich, Terri Clark, Blue Rodeo, Small Town Pistols, Aaron Pritchett, The Roadhammers, Travis Tritt, Julian Austin, Jamie Warren, Johnny Reid, Doc Walker, George Canyon, Beverly Mahood, & Tara Oram. Adding to the impressive line up that RJB has supported is Emerson Drive at 2011's Burlington Sound of Music Festival, they have supported for Victoria Banks, Jason McCoy, Lone Star and Blake Shelton at Lucknow's Music in the Fields.
RJB was selected to perform at Canadian Music Week in Toronto Ont. 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2016!!! They performed to an amazing crowd at The Cadillac Lounge (first 2 years) on the Thurs. night of CMW, and in 2013 on the Friday night at the Cadillac Lounge, and has made a ton of new fans, and friends. With its busy schedule, it's wondered how the band found time to record a debut EP at EMAC Recording studios in London Ontario. The effort was produced by greats including Robert Nation and Moe Berg, and they garnered airplay at numerous stations in Canada and the United States. On-air interviews followed, and the EP sold briskly at RJB shows and on I-Tunes. RJB is getting ready to release their new album the summer of 2017. The band also filmed their first music video produced by Replay Media Productions which was filmed on location in Lucan, Ontario.
The River Junction Band is honoured in being perennially nominated, and winning in 2008, and 2013 the award for "Country Group of the Year" at the London Music Awards. Nominated at the first ever CMAO Awards for "Group or Duo of the Year". They were also finalists in the "Best Live" category, and won, "Best Country" act at the 2010 Toronto Independent Music Awards. Although the most rewarding moments for the band are when they are on stage getting the audience rockin', and creating new fans along the way.
RJB has grown its reputation as a solid live act and they absolutely love to hit the stage.....if it's a great country band you're looking for .......look no further than The River Junction Band. Check out their website for more information at www.riverjunctionband.com and also below for photos and videos.
"In the many years I have known Barry, his two loves have been sports and music. Since he can't recreate Sidney Crosby's goals, he's chosen to do Tom Petty's music instead."
- Derringer (Q107)
"Not gonna lie Barry, I clicked on this thinking you wouldn't be very good. I was so wrong.
You can sing man."
- Gerry Dee
We Ain't Petty.....how can we be...there is only 1 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. What we are, is a live tribute to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician and band, The Heartbreakers.
We Ain't Petty is led by long time musician and TV personality Barry Davis, who's joined by top notch, veteran musicians, who pay tribute to the legendary band.
From American Girl to You Don't Know how it feels, "We Ain't Petty" takes you on a journey through Petty's prolific history.
We Ain't Petty... We're a live Tribute
Glenn Reid’s performing career started out in Montreal, where he worked clubs as a front man and lead singer before gravitating to writing some of the material as well. Here he met the Henman brothers, David and Ritchie, who had parted ways with April Wine after recording most of the album “Electric Jewels” and a long-time collaboration between the artists began.
Ritchie Henman joined Glenn in a short-lived band and David Henman produced Glenn’s first demo “Baby Tonight”. In 1979, Glenn made the move down the 401 to Toronto. When he arrived he formed a band called “The Rave Ons” with Eddy Zeeman (Cats Can Fly), Nick Sneer (writes music for television) and Sarge Chesson. The band had great success playing venues of up to 8-10 thousand people opening for The Segarini Band, Goddo, Ian Hunter and
Glenn spent two years in Alberta working as a solo act – playing 3 sets a night, 6 nights per week. This was a very rich song-writing period that aided in developing his country style. Glenn stopped at a local club where he won a talent contest and was awarded studio time at TAG Recording in Alberta. While recording his first solo CD “A Piece of This Country” Glenn also worked as a DJ on the local country/gospel station C.I.H.S. “A Piece of This Country” sold hundreds of copies to people from all over the world.
2008 saw Glenn enter Steve Sherman Productions once again to start the recording of his most ambitious project to date, a 16-song opus with a title cut co-written with Juno Hall of famer, David Henman, called “Keep on Walkin’”. As of this writing, the first single released throughout Europe entitled “Sing Like Johnny Cash”, has just entered the European Country Music charts in France at #31, Denmark at#23, and Belgium at #18, and was ranked on the ECMA’s list of “most played” at #31 for the week of Oct 8th, 2010.
Still performing at countless clubs, festivals and benefits across the Ontario landscape and with a support tour throughout Europe in the planning stages, audiences around the world will be enjoying this consummate performer’s music for some time to come. Combining tireless enthusiasm and a seemingly unending supply of songs both poignant and uplifting, Glenn’s live shows continue to thrill, intrigue and satisfy. As the CD says…Keep on Walkin’.
A power couple based out of Cambridge, Ontario "The Jenny Howes Duo" are no new-comers to the local music scene.
Daryl, a drummer by trade, had aspirations of rock stardom since his childhood. After touring the country several times representing several genres of music, he has landed comfortably in this duo configuration now playing guitar along side his singer/songwriter wife, Jenny.
Jenny came into the music scene as a back up singer, somewhat later in the game. After meeting Daryl, they worked tirelessly on their music, creating and sharing a contagious energy that resonated with their listeners. This placed Jenny's vocals all up front!
Developing a sound all their own; while incorporating acoustic and electric guitar and lively percussion, this duo creates a vibe that is both edgy and soulful. Influenced by classic singer songwriters of the 70's; rock and grunge of the 90's; and pop and indie folk rock of today, Jenny and Daryl are sure not to disappoint, covering a unique variety of music guaranteed to have you singing right along!
The Atomic Beliveaus
Following in the footsteps of such great Canadian artists as Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet and Huevos Rancheros, The Atomic Beliveaus humbly pay homage to the sounds of vintage surf, spy, spaghetti western and garage rock.
Dedicated to writing and performing driving, original material, the band infuses the classic instrumental genres with a modern feel, while keeping the old rock’n’roll spirit alive.
Mary Kate Terepka’s musical career began early, hosting open mic nights in her hometown of Ottawa as a teenager. She went on to front the band Jacob Two-Two, producing two albums of original music and touring across Canada the old school way. When family, kids and a new career as a paramedic brought her to
the GTA in 2008, she made the switch from guitar to ukulele to accommodate the more restricted urban environment, or more specifically, the cab of an ambulance. This led to her
most recent #ambucover
project, which features
her favourite cover songs,
stripped down and
recorded in the back
of an ambulance with
just her pure authentic
self and her trusty ukulele.
For TurockStock, MK is accompanied by drummer/percussionist Christian Odorico, an EMS colleague and long-time performer with such bands as Pan Fantasy and Samba Squad.
